ADV: Adolescent Dating Violence (Part 1)

Do you know it is estimated that 1 in 8 adolescents will become involved in a violent relationship?

What is ADV?
ADV stands for Adolescent Dating Violence. When a young adult is involved in an unhealthy relationship he/she is said to be going through ADV.
An unhealthy relationship is any relationship which involves physical, sexual, or psychological/emotional violence and stalking.

According to Google definition, Violence is a "behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something".
.
According to the society of Disease Control and Prevention, “Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime. Dating violence often starts with teasing and name calling. These behaviors are often thought to be a "normal" part of a relationship. But these behaviors can set the stage for more serious violence like physical assault and rape”.

Why talk about ADV?
Most teens and adults are unaware of the alarming rate of adolescent dating violence and sometimes we do not know that teens go through abusive relationships.

Abusive relationships can cause short term and/or long term effects and/or consequences to the victim.

Do you think people in abusive relationships need help? If yes what kind of help? and who really needs help, is it the abuser or the victim?

We would consider the effects and consequences of Adolescence Dating Violence in part 2.
